San Francisco

Here's the famous Alcatraz. This is the warden's house which was burned down during the indian occupation (if my facts serve me correctly).

firstly, I love the border. it's gorgeous

this is a pretty nice shot :P what I really love about this is the dark and ominous look it has to it. the sky and clouds definitely add to that, but it's just something about that building. it's very eerie looking. the angle you chose was great as well as the composition. any other way and I don't think it would have quite as much impact. good job on the black & white - compliments the shot well.

all in all, a very nicely done photo

Thank you, Zeta.
I took this one from a few different angles, and the two that I submitted are my favorite.
Appreciate your support

Amazing capture of the feeling. Theres so much feeling in this shot with the clouds and the dying building and the history of this place. I really like the angle you shot it at because it adds an effect of grandour that makes such an impact.

I thought the b/w was more effective than color for this type of mood...

I think the angle u captured this from gives the peice a special quality. It was instantly recognisable, even from the thumbnail. I just love that film. great work.

Thanks Myles.
I haven't actually seen the movie in full yet, just the ending where the planes shoot the missiles. I'll try to find it and watch it though.

*nyssi said it perfectly, and I agree with her completely on the sky issue - it's the first thing that grabbed my attention when browsing through my thumbnails. I love how busy and dramatic it looks - there is a sense of movement there which contrasts against the buildings that are slowly falling apart in the foreground. Nice!

Thanks, mate.
I think the monochromatic tones brought out the sky more than the color did. This is one of my favorites from San Fran. :)

This shot captured my attention the most from the three of your shots that were in my message center. I think the sky captured my attention. The building add's the dark and moody character to it, like a storm is coming in. A big storm. I don't mean the normal type of storm produced by nature. With the building, it just add's a death type of sense to it. Very nice shot. Lovely black and white, too, I might add. :)

Thanks, Nyss.
I thought the monochromatic tones added to the "death" theme that came along with the empty building. The day was really cloudy, which added dynamism to the sky.

Thank you.
It takes practice and exposure. Look at lots of magazines and learn how to see the photo before you take it in order to limit the amount of post-processing.

Magazines are a good source of inspiration for me. For instance I saw a shot of a wedding where a guy got up on a ladder and looked down at everyone waving. Well I told my photographer that's what I wanted at mine. He knew the EXACT picture I was talking about. Although the photo didn't come out the way that I wanted it to, it was still really good to get an idea from a magazine
