A boatman takes a nap in the middle of the day. The lives of these people revolve around the boats, their entire business based on how many times people go back and forth between the port and the village.

Wonderful capture Piotr :) The b/w tones are excellent, as well as the comp and focus. Your description really adds a tremendous amount to the photo, imo.. the whole messiness (trash in water, shacks in bg, etc) of the scene really help to add to the feel of the area as well. It is sad that so many people in the world have to live in such poor, and worse, conditions....

Unfortunately that's the life these people lead. There's not many ways we can help them, and the government isn't helping either :(

Well, you may not be able to help them monetarily (etc), but I think that by documenting their lifestyles that is helping, by opening people's eyes to the conditions that many others live in.. It is so easy for us to hear about something, but never really think about it until we see it with our eyes, either in person, or through photographs..

Jakarta's history is amazing, as well as the size of the population growth that has occurred there in the last few decades.. I read that the population of the city doubles during the day from all of the workers who come in from other areas, as well as Indonesia having the world's 4th most populous country... just amazing, it must be so hectic there all of the time!

Right now jetlagged as hell and hating the snow. Otherwise I'm doin pretty good. I don't start class till 11:00 am everyday and end at 15:00. So it's like a half day everyday :)

that is sooo unfair! Life at JIS you know, so i won;t go into it. We have extended essays due etc. so it's a hectic time.

How can you hate the snow? Snow is awesome! I kiss it so much! Lucky you.
